Sixty NSTP implementers and educators from thirty (30) Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Region 1 convened at the University of Luzon on April 12, 2024, to delve into the transformative methodology of Peace Education spearheaded by the Global Peace Foundation Philippines (GPF).

Under the tutelage of GPF’s Director of Education, Dir. Ann Montejo, attendees immersed themselves in the Values-Based Peace Education approach, aimed at nurturing a culture of harmony and understanding within communities. The workshop, organized by the Region 1 Association of NSTP Implementers and Educators, received support from the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHEDRO – I) and partnered with the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers, Inc. (PSNEI).

Participants were reminded that fostering peace begins by aligning personal values with the essence of humanity, cultivating a culture of respect and understanding within communities, particularly within academic environments. This sentiment was echoed by CHEDRO – I Regional Director, Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, who emphasized the importance of integrating peace education across academic disciplines, highlighting its significance beyond the confines of the NSTP subject.

In a significant stride towards promoting peace-building initiatives, 10 HEIs in the region solidified their commitment to advancing global peace by partnering with GPF. With the Executive Director of GPF Philippines, Mr. Leonard Faustino, who served as the Keynote Speaker, GPF commits to strengthening collaboration and engagement with its partners and stakeholders to foster peace education, community and youth development, and even women empowerment initiatives. By embracing the vision of One Family under God, these institutions vowed to actively contribute to the collective dream of a more harmonious and united world.

The workshop served as a testament to the region’s dedication to instilling values of peace and cooperation, paving the way for a brighter, more interconnected future.
