Global Peace Community Farm is underway in Davao Region

CARMEN, Davao Del Norte - An organic aquaculture farm is eyed to develop alternative livelihood and employment for farmers in this province.

The project is part of Global Peace Foundation Philippines’ (GPFP) effort to promote community driven development through the creation of Global Peace Community Farm.

GPFP partnered with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 11, Department of Education (DepEd) Davao Del Norte, and the Local Government  of Carmen to start the program in the region.

The farm is aimed to alleviate the living conditions in the project area. Technical training will be conducted this September to empower its stakeholders. They will be equipped with skills in organic tilapia production in pond to promote community enterprise development.

The Global Peace Community Farm was also declared by BFAR as the region’s demo farm for organic aquaculture farming. Located just across La Paz National High School, the Department of Education also announced that it will become the practical work area for K-12 TLE (Technology Livelihood Education) Program.

The project site has four big ponds and two sets of fish condominium. Organic catfish and tilapia are infused in the ponds.

Developments are currently going on at the site. The Panabo Lighthouse Hardware Residence Plumber conducted a site visit in order to make a site plan regarding the implementation of the water facility project. The multipurpose construction is also on-going. Members of the association planted vegetables along the fences of the farm compound.
