GPF Capability-Building Workshop


GPF Philippines visit to Davao Del Norte focused on increasing the understanding of our implementers and stakeholders on the aspirations, principles and values of GPF through a Capability-Building Workshop. Hosted by LGU Carmen at the ABC Conference Hall, a total of twenty implementers and stakeholders participated: 2 from LGU Carmen, 12 from DepEd and GlobALS, 2 from Global Peace Community Farm, and 4 from ALV Guadalupe.


EPS Lourdes Navarro opened the workshop with an opening remarks followed by a welcoming remarks by LGU Carmen Liaison Officer Boy Damalerio. Mayor Mar Perandos then gave an inspirational message while expressing gratitude to GPF and commitment to the programs.


GlobALS Program Director Ann Montejo then presented an Introduction to GPF, stressing a common culture which is centered on the 4 core values: living for the greater good, dream big, ownership and teamwork. Concluding the lecture was a recitation of The PeaceBuilder Pledge. PD Ann also conducted getting-to-know-you-more and interaction styles activities, to which everyone actively participated in.


In the afternoon, Executive Director Aldrin Nituma gave a presentation on Community-Driven Programs Toward Sustainability and Peace. GPF Philippines' first magazine, PEACEBUILDER, was then distributed to all participants.


Impressions and call-to-action messages were shared by 3 representatives from the 3 programs/projects of GPF in DavNor: Global Peace Community Farm officer Marivic Tubay; GlobALS Instructional Manager Rolando Cayco; and Guadalupe Barangay Chairman Alex Otto for All-Lights Village Guadalupe. Everyone offered commitment to become a PEACEBUILDER and to take more ownership over the programs/projects.


The final day of our visit to Davao Del Norte is a long trip to the municipality of Talaingod for the first completion exercises of GlobALS-JBL learning center in Sitio JBL, Barangay Sto. Nino.


Comprised of the Ata-Manobo tribe, 37 completers of various ages in the Basic Literacy Program participated in the exercises.


The Welcome Address was given by Purok Leader Aquino Mansumilay and OIC Barangay Chairman Armando Danduan. DALSC Ofelia Mantiquilla and the Principal of Basak Elementary School, Dexter Soriano, gave the conferment. The distribution of certificates and a cultural performance then followed.


Inspirational messages were given by ED Aldrin Nituma and Jose Melendres, the District Coordinating Principal, followed by Words of Thanks from Raiel La Torre, GlobALS instructional manager.


Before leaving Talaingod, we had a chance to meet the mayor of the municipality, Hon. Basilio Libayao.
