Global Peace Foundation Philippines spearheads Youth Assembly

Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Philippines kickstarts the Global Peace Festival 2022 through the Youth Assembly on November 19, 2022 at Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) in Bacolor, Pampanga attended by hundreds of youth leaders all over Central Luzon.

With the theme “One Family Under God: A Vision for a World of Freedom and Peace,” GPF Philippines, the Youth Assembly gathered students to empower them as moral and innovative leaders to create new models for peacebuilding.

The legacy of the future stands upon the youth, and to cultivate youth participation, delegations from different institutions all over Pampanga attended the Youth Assembly such as Don Honorio State University, Natividad High School, Guillermo D. Mendoza National High School, and San Vicente San Francisco High School.

Youth Assembly was graced by the presence of several keynote speakers such as the DHVSU Principal Louie Fe Villanueva, Benigno Aquino Jr High School Principal Cristina Tablanza, GPF Philippines Director for Youth Development Leonard Faustino, GPF Asia Pacific Regional President Ingill Ra, and Travelling Salakot Founder Paul John Hernandez for the first half of the program.

“When you are a life-long learner, you must have self-initiated education focused on your personal development. Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world,” Mrs. Tablaza shared during the Youth Assembly.

Meanwhile, Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA) Youth Ambassador Nicholas Chun Eunkyu, TAYO Awards Former Executive Director Patricia Matute, and KRIS Philippines Co-Founder Arizza Nocum delivered talks to the youth attendees during the second half of the program.

“When you only dream, nothing’s gonna happen. You’re supposed to know why you want to do it. For instance, you want to become a lawyer to fight for human rights. And I start fighting for human rights, what’s next? Start looking for purpose,” Mr. Eunkyu delivers during his talk.

Ms. Nocum and Ms. Matute both emphasize the value of leadership during their presentation, highlighting the peacebuilding as a core for a leader who initiates, includes, empathizes, and empowers the people. A youth leader is called upon to serve.

As Mr. Leonard Faustino, the Program Director for Youth Development of GPF Philippines, quoted Global Peace Foundation Chairman Hyun Jin Preston Moon, in his opening message, saying that when we are goal-focused, a leader with passion and burning desire, we become a “self-motivated engine” where we feel that we have a clear purpose, drive and energy every single day. When we strive to embody that, it becomes something that echoes in our heart, not just in our mind.

Youth Assembly is a pre-event for the Global Peace Festival to be held on December 1 to 3 at Clark, Pampanga. The Global Peace Leadership Conference & Service Learning Program will be held on December 1-2 and the Global Peace Festival will be held on December 3 with performances from bands such as Autotelic, KARD, and BINI.

GPF Philippines is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization with a stated mission to promote “an innovative, values-based approach to peacebuilding, guided by the vision of One Family under God.”
