The 1st Global Peace Volunteers Camp in the Philippines

Global Peace Foundation Philippines, led by Executive Director Aldrin Nituma, held its first Global Peace Volunteers (GPV) Camp on October 30-31, 2014 at ESL Resort, Palsara, Balete, Batangas.

The camp was sponsored by the Municipality of Balete. (GPF Philippines, Korean Export and Import Bank, and Balete Municipality are in partnership in launching the first All-Lights Village in Taal Island in Sitio Calawit.)

Seventeen college and university students, 15 of which participated in the Global Poomashi project in Calawit last July, joined the camp.

The purpose of the camp is to cultivate the understanding of the volunteers on the basic aspirations, principles and values of GPF so that they may become PEACEBUILDERS.

An opening program, with municipal mayor Hon. Leovino Hidalgo speaking was held on the first day, followed by lecture presentations, barrier breakers, group dynamics, and an election of officers for Global Peace Youth (GPY) Balete Chapter.

At 6AM the following day, a coastal clean-up was carried out led by Mayor Hidalgo, municipal councilors, staffs from various local government agencies, members of GPY Balete Chapter, and members of DSWD's 4Ps or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (a human development program of the national government that invests in the health and education of poor households, particularly of children aged 0-18 years old.)
